The 2007 Red Ribbon Awards and Celebration Luncheon is dedicated to recognizing the exceptional prevention work being done in San Diego County. We ask for your help by nominating individuals, programs, media personalities, and/or youth that made a significant difference promoting safe and healthy communities through outstanding prevention work. To nominate someone for these esteemed awards please contact Kevin McClure at kevin@sdpc.org or 619-557-6848. The nomination deadline is August 31, 2007.

2007 Red Ribbon Award Categories

  • The Debi Nixon Award (Education): Several years ago Ms. Nixon passed away from cancer and this award honors her work to keep our youth drug free. This award goes to one individual who works in the field of education and embodies the passion of prevention pioneer and educator Debi Nixon.
  • Youth Prevention Champion: Will be awarded to middle and high school students who have championed the cause of prevention by providing leadership in prevention efforts in their school and community.
  • The Kiki Camarena Award (Law Enforcement): This award will go to one individual serving in the law enforcement arena who works with their community to promote prevention and exemplifies the spirit of fallen DEA Special Agent, Enrique "Kiki" Camarena whose life's work helps keep our communities drug free.
  • Outstanding Prevention Program Award: This award will go to an outstanding prevention program or project that best follows the federal prevention strategies and/or education's principles of effectiveness for researched-based programs, or has demonstrated success through measurable data and environmental strategies.
  • Lifetime Achievement Award: This award will go to a person who has been a leader in the field of drug prevention for at least 10 years and is known for their iconic work and success in the field.
